Understanding your payslip

Your payslip contains several sections that break down how your pay is calculated:

Header information

  • Pay Period: The dates of work covered by this pay

  • Payment Date: The date the payroll was processed

    • Depending on your payment method, the money may arrive in your bank account on this date or shortly after

  • Employee: Your name and address

  • Employer: Your employer's business name, address, and Australian Business Number (ABN)

Salary and wages

This section shows a line-by-line breakdown of all earnings included in your pay. Each line includes:

  • Type: The earning type (e.g., Ordinary hours, Annual leave, Overtime, Public holiday)

  • Units: The number of hours or days

  • Rate: The pay rate for that earning type

  • Amount: The total for that line

Gross pay

The total amount you've earned before any deductions are taken.

PAYG (Pay As You Go)

A breakdown of tax deductions taken from your gross pay, including:

  • Income tax

  • Medicare levy

  • Student loan repayments (if applicable)

Deductions

Any other deductions taken from your gross pay (e.g., KiwiSaver, child support, salary sacrifice arrangements).

Reimbursements

Any approved reimbursements added to your pay. These are added after tax has been calculated, so they increase your net pay without being taxed.

Net pay

The final amount you'll receive in your bank account after all deductions are removed and reimbursements are added.

Superannuation

A breakdown of superannuation contributions included in this pay, showing the type and value of each contribution.

Balances

Your current leave balances as of this pay period (e.g., annual leave, sick leave, time off in lieu).

Common Questions

The payment date doesn't match when I received the money

The payment date on your payslip is when your employer processed the payroll. Depending on your payment method and bank, the money may take 1-2 business days to appear in your account.

I can't find an older payslip

All your payslips should appear in the list. Try scrolling down or using the pagination controls at the bottom of the page to find older payslips.

My leave balance looks wrong

Leave balances on your payslip reflect your balance as of that pay period. If you've submitted leave requests since then, they won't be reflected until they're processed in a future pay. Check your current balances in the Leave Requests section of PaySauce.

I need to share my payslip with someone

Use the Print/Save to PDF button to download your payslip, then you can email it or share it as needed.
