Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA), log in with your authenticator app, and what to do if you lose access to your device.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security feature that requires you to verify your identity in two ways when you log in: your password, and a one-time code generated by an app on your phone. This means that even if someone obtains your password, they cannot access your account without your phone.

MFA is required for all PaySauce accounts. You'll set it up the first time you log in, and it takes around two minutes to complete.

Note: You will need an authenticator app installed on your phone. If you don't have one, download either of the following for free before you begin:

  • Google Authenticator (available on iOS and Android)

  • Microsoft Authenticator (available on iOS and Android)

Setting up MFA

You'll be prompted to set up MFA automatically when you create your PaySauce account. If you haven't done so yet, you'll be taken to the setup screen the next time you log in.

  1. On the Set up your authenticator app screen, open your authenticator app on your phone.

  2. In the app, select the option to add a new account and scan the QR code displayed on screen.

  3. PaySauce will appear as a new entry in your authenticator app.

  4. Select Next in PaySauce.

  5. Enter the six-digit code shown in your authenticator app and select Verify.

MFA is now active on your account. You'll be asked to enter a code each time you log in.

Logging in with MFA

Once MFA is set up, your login process will include an extra step each time.

  1. Enter your email address and password as usual.

  2. Open your authenticator app on your phone.

  3. Enter the six-digit code shown next to the PaySauce entry.

Note: Codes refresh every 30 seconds. If a code isn't working, wait for the next one to appear and try again.

If you lose access to your authenticator app

If you lose your phone, change devices, or accidentally delete your authenticator app, you won't be able to generate login codes. You will need to contact PaySauce support to reset your MFA.

To get your MFA reset, contact PaySauce support via the chat in the app or via email with [email protected]. Once support has verified your identity, they'll reset your MFA and you can set it up again on your new device.

Common questions

I entered my code but it says it's invalid

Authenticator codes are time-sensitive and expire every 30 seconds. Wait for the next code to appear in your app and enter it promptly. If the problem continues, check that the date and time on your phone are set to update automatically, as incorrect device time is the most common cause of code errors.

I got a new phone - do I need to reset my MFA?

If your authenticator app didn't transfer to your new device, contact PaySauce support to reset your MFA before you try to log in. If you transferred your apps to your new phone and PaySauce still appears in your authenticator, you can log in as normal.

Can I use any authenticator app?

Any app that supports time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) will work. Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator are the most common, but others such as Authy also work.
